I took an early morning trip to Hampton Creek Cove and also stopped by the Roan Picnic Shelter #1 today, August 26, 2009. Hampton Creek Cove:Great Blue Heron-1 American Goldfinch-4 Chestnut-sided Warbler-1 Gray Catbird-1 Eastern Towhee-2 House Wren-1 Chipping Sparrow-2 Canada Warbler-1 Eastern Wood Pewee-1 Belted Kingfisher-1 Ruby-throated Hummingbird-3 Common Yellowthroat-1 Eastern Phoebe-1 Picnic Shelter #1 and surrounding areas: Tufted Titmouse-5 Ruby-throated Hummingbird-3 Northern Cardinal-3 Gray Catbird-1 Eastern Towhee-2 Black and White Warbler-1 Chestnut-sided Warbler-1 Canada Warbler-1 Red-eyed Vireo-1 Eastern Wood Pewee-1 Hairy Woodpecker-1 Yellow-throated Vireo-1 The Yellow-throated Vireo is a "life bird" for me. I got a really good look at it. Beautiful bird! It was seen on the gravel road just past the picnic shelter. After reading the report from up around Carver's Gap today, looks like I missed a good opportunity to pick up some seldom seen migrating warblers. Gary Cooper Bristol, Virginia
