Bristol Area Birders, Michelle and I decided to bird the reclaimed strip mine site at Guesses Fork in Buchanan County this morning. We were expecting Blue-winged Warblers and were not disappointed as we found seven among the Autumn Olive bushes. New birds for us in 2006 also included our first Prairie Warbler, Palm Warbler, and Worm-eating Warblers. We found White-eyed Vireos in several spots, along with Yellow-throated Vireos and Blue-headed Vireos. We found a total of 10 warbler species, bringing our weekend warbler species total to 15. Another highlight of the day was a possible Greater Yellowlegs. We haven't reviewed our video yet but will do so after Easter dinner tonight. For those interested I have posted some video captures of the Blue-winged and Worm-eating Warblers as well as some other hike pictures at: http://www.pbase.com/aquilaet/guesses Yellow Warbler - 1 Worm-eating Warbler - 3 Yellow-rumped Warbler - 1 Palm Warbler - 1 Black-and-white Warbler - 14 Ovenbird - 2 Blue-winged Warbler - 7 Hooded Warbler - 5 Prairie Warbler - 1 Yellow-throated Warbler - 2 Wood Thrush - 4 Hermit Thrush - 1 Brown Thrasher - 2 Yellow-throated Vireo - 2 White-eyed Vireo - 5 Northern Rough-winged Swallow - 2 Blue-gray Gnatcatcher - 4 Yellow-bellied Sapsucker - 1 White-throated Sparrows - many Ed and Michelle Talbott Grundy, Virginia Buchanan County Bird Club --------------------------------- Talk is cheap.
