I was able to do some birding yesterday (24th) around Russell County. While traveling on Route 80 between the Elk Garden Road intersection and Elk Garden Methodist Church I saw an immature light morph Rough-legged Hawk perched on a utility pole. This is the second one I have seen in this area. The first was an adult. Later, on Clifton Farms Road I saw 3 Golden Eagles. There were 2 soaring and 1 perched. I later saw another at Stuart's Pond but it could have been a duplicate. I also had four Loggerhead Shrikes during my wanderings around the area. Of note also, was a group of 4 American Black Ducks on Little River and another group of 3 at The Mudhole at Elk Garden. Tom Tom & Laverne Hunter Russell County Bird Club Lebanon, VA
