Don Mackler spotted a glossy ibis feeding along the shore line next to the paved trail. Bill Opengari quickly confirmed the identification. We had several great looks at the bird in the sunlight. The second part of the field trip, a search for sparrows in the nearby fields, turned into a raptor count with a hoped for Bald Eagle and an unexpected Merlin directly overhead. We ended at Jim Minnick's property with a very productive walk. Jim is the club's speaker for our Jan. meeting where he will have a book signing for his recent publication. All are invited to attend (1st Wed. at the Blacksburg Library 7:30 PM).
