Holly Taylor and Mark Taylor had a Golden Eagle on Roan Mountain about mid-morning Friday, 11 July 2014, in what they reported as Cherokee National Forest land of Round Bald to Gassy Ridge in Carter Co., TN. They described the bird as "Very obvious, large bodied bird of prey. Definitely an eagle shape in flight. It's wing span was about three times that of the Broad-winged Hawk that took a dive at it, and larger than a nearby Turkey Vulture. Chocolate brown underneath with a lighter brown, golden nape around head. Obtained a great view of the bird through binoculars as it flew directly over Round Bald from the Tennessee to North Carolina side and kept flying on."
