I finally finished the Fish Springs Breeding Bird Survey yesterday. The
route starts at Fish Springs, crosses Walnut mountain, goes through Roan
Mt. village and ends at Heaton Creek. I started it a week ago, but had to
stop because of a flooded roadway. There were 59 species recorded during
the 50 stops. Whip-or-will and Belted Kingfisher were seen between stops
but not on any of the 50 stops.
Bird activity was good, even though this route was run later than usual,
primarily because of weather. The Great Blue Heron was at Hampton Creek.
