The Herndon Chapter of TOS (aka the Elizabethton Bird Club) will have
a field trip to Rankin Bottoms for shorebirds, waders, gulls & terns, etc.
Date: Saturday, Aug. 20.
Time: depart at 2 pm, so get there a few minutes ahead.
Meeting place: west side of Kmart parking lot, just off North State of
Franklin Rd.
near I-26 (exit 19), in Johnson City.
It will undoubtedly be hot, so be prepared (water, hat, sun screen, etc). If
this time
of day sounds foolish, it's to take advantage of the afternoon light.
(On a morning trip, you would be looking into the sun, not good for
shorebirding.)
Bring a scope if you have one, but others will share theirs if you don't.
We will make a pit stop in the White Pine area before continuing to Rankin.
Afterwards, we may eat dinner on the road, perhaps at the Cracker Barrel at
exit 8 of I-81.
