[Bristol-Birds] Elizabethton & Roan Mtn CBCs

Elizabethton CBC:  the 61st consecutive CBC at Eliz. was held on Sunday, 14 
Dec.  Seventeen observers in 6 parties endured dreary conditions on a cold & 
drizzly day to observe 71 species (which is near the recent average).  Notable 
species were a Selasphorus hummingbird (probably Rufous) and TWO Gray Catbirds. 
 Also good were Green-wg. Teal (2), Red-br. Merganser (3), Bald Eagle (1 im.), 
Red-shouldered Hawk (1 - scarce in NE Tenn.),  Red-br. Nuthatch (2), House Wren 
(2), Brown Thrasher (2), Palm Warbler (1), Purple Finch (1), & Pine Siskin (2). 
 A pretty good day, especially considering the weather.  Notably absent were 
vultures (hunkered down somewhere) & Black Duck.

Roan Mountain CBC:  This count was held for the 51st time in 54 years (snowed 
out 3 times in the past) on Monday 15 Dec.  Three observers in 2 parties found 
43 species (about average) on this high elevation count.  There was 1-2 inches 
of snow & ice above 4000 ft (but the road was clear), with blustery winds.  
Highlights were Chipping Sparrow (1) & Red Crossbill (2).  Regulars included 
Ruffed Grouse (3), Com. Raven (3), Red-br. Nuthatch (24) & Pine Siskin (71).
