COME - Watauga R (2) 2015 by Adam Campbell.jpeg
We've have had a few merganser reports in the river this year with 2 Common
Mergansers seen
on the Watauga River since April of 2015. Observers have been David
Kirschke, Rick Knight, Rack Cross and Adam Campbell. Adam took the photo
above of those birds. A bird reported and
photographed today, 5 July 2015, at Osceola Island down stream from South
Holston Dam on the South Fork Holston River by Don Carrier and Mike Sanders
appears to be a female-type Common Merganser. This is an excellet find !
Thanks for the find guys and thanks for sharing with the birding community.

I was alerted by Don Carrier this morning that he had found a merganser
species at Osceola Island. See his post here
<https://www.freelists.org/post/bcbirdclub/Unusual-Timing>
https://www.freelists.org/post/bcbirdclub/Unusual-Timing I went out to get
a look a around 3:30 and relocated the bird. I was able to get a few shots
of it found here <http://www.msandersphotography.com/merganser>
www.msandersphotography.com/merganser the bird appears to be a Red-breasted
Merganser, if this is in error please correct. I know there was some common
mergansers seen in May. I couldn't find any June records for either species.
The bird was still present at 5:00 this evening. Cool find Don.
