A quick note on an observation from yesterday's Greeneville TOS spring
count in Greene County--
On Round Knob at an elevation of about 600 meters, I found
Chuck-will's-widow and Whip-poor-will together. All the goatsuckers
above this point were Whips, while all below were Chucks.
The spot is at a powerline cut that crosses Round Knob Road in a sharp
switchback just below the point where private land ends and Cherokee
National Forest land begins. There is a house trailer in a clearing
near the switchback, but the site is mostly deciduous forest with
scattered pines.
