Fellow Birders, This morning I checked out the Mountain Top Golf Course, which is a short brisk walk from my house. I was surprised at the bird activity there. The biggest surprise was finding a female Chestnut-sided Warbler there. Chestnut-sideds normally do not nest here at this elevation, 2400 ft. In fact this was the first one I had ever seen here except during migration or at higher elevations. According to Peterson's Field Guide to Warblers these birds don't start migration until mid August. Maybe this female decided to start early. It would be nice to think she nested here though I doubt it. Also on the course was a beautiful female Cerulean Warbler with her bluish-green plumage. This feeding flock also included a Black-and-white Warbler, Blue-gray Gnatcatchers, an adult male American Redstart, a Hooded Warbler, a Northern Parula, not singing and 4 Scarlet Tanagers.
