Today at Rasar Farm in Carter County (just outside Elizabethton) Larry McDaniel, Don Holt and myself (Rob Biller) observed 3 Blue-winged Teal. Also present were 2 Bufflehead, 2 Wood Duck, and in the fields just before meeting the river, Brown-headed Cowbirds, Accipiter SP., Tree Swallows, Barn Swallows, Field Sparrow, etc.. In the Blue Springs Community (loop from Blue Springs Road back to the Iron Bridge that crosses the river toward Little Wilbur) - Barn Swallows, Tree Swallows, Northern Rough-winged Swallows, Savannah Sparrows, House Sparrows, etc... In the Wilbur Lake vicinity - 2 Wood Duck, ~6-8 Bufflehead, Blue-headed Vireo, Pine Warbler, Black-throated Green Warbler, Yellow-throated Warbler, Blue-gray Gnatcatcher, Red-bellied Woodpecker, Downy Woodpeckers, White-breasted Nuthatches, and singing Goldfinches, which always make me stop and verify this time of the year. We ran into Bryan Stevens, Gil Dourean (sorry Gil if if I spelled it wrong!), Reece Jamerson, and Brooky Potter who said they also had a Louisiana Waterthrush. Finally on the way out (along the river) we had a nice Cooper's Hawk and a perched Osprey.
