The Herndon Chapter of TOS conducted the 17th annual Carter County Summer Count
on Saturday, 12 June 2010. This count was started in 1992 (but missed 2 years)
to provide
a snapshot of local birdlife during the most important season for birds.

22 observers in 5 parties reported 110 species. This is slightly below the
average of
112 species per count (range 105 - 118). Over the 17 years of this count a
combined
total of 140 species have been found.

Overall numbers were a bit low this year, perhaps partly due to weather on
count day.
The cold & heavy snow of winter apparently impacted some permanent residents,
like Carolina Wren.
