19 Feb 2011 Burke's Garden, Tazewell Co., VA Sunny, but tempered by a cold blustery wind. Birds observed: Canada Goose - about 20 Am. Wigeon - 1 Am. Black Duck - 4 Mallard - 50 Green-wg. Teal - 15 Turkey Vulture Bald Eagle - 3 (2 adults near the nest + 1 imm. in flight, possibly last year's young) Red-tailed Hawk - several Rough-legged Hawk - 2, possibly 3 Golden Eagle - 2, maybe 3 (distant) Am. Kestrel - 2 Am. Coot - 1 Rock Pigeon Mourning Dove E. Screech-Owl - 1, responded to whistle Belted Kingfisher - 2 Red-headed Woodpecker - 1 Blue Jay Am. Crow Com. Raven - about 15-20 Carolina Chickadee Tufted Titmouse White-br. Nuthatch E. Bluebird Am. Robin Eur. Starling Song Sparrow Red-wg. Blackbird Am. Goldfinch House Sparrow --------------------------------------- 30 species our focus was on raptors & waterfowl (A nice flock of Wild Turkeys was seen above Douglas Wayside on drive up.)
