Area Birders,
Today I hiked and birded a graveled road here in the northern part of
Buchanan County and logged 19 species in just over a mile. The isolated road
called "Mary Kelly Road" leads to an old cemetery.

The highlights of the day were close-up looks at a BROWN CREEPER and a male
YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER that called from time to time, as it peeked at me
from behind a dead branch. Other woodpeckers included a female PILEATED, 4
NORTHERN FLICKERS, 2 male DOWNYS and 1 RED-BELLIED.

Sparrows found were 2 FIELD, 1 SONG and 6 WHITE-THROATED.

The PURPLE FINCHES at my feeder have now increased this week to 17, a new
yard record. There are 10 males and 7 females.

Following is the complete list logged on the hike.

Enjoy the birds,

Roger Mayhorn
