Bristol Birders, I stopped by Beaver Knob, KY (just over the state line from the Breaks Park) on my way home from finishing up my Christmas shopping this morning. There were not as many sparrows as last weekend but probably a couple hundred Goldfinch have taken their place. I got some greats looks at a Northern Harrier as he hunted over the fields - an accipiter made a quick run at him but I didn't see if it was a Cooper's or a Sharpie. Wish I had taken my camcorder now. The large flocks of crows remain on the reclaimed strip mine site and I also noted a Horned Lark and Ruby-crowned Kinglet. I've got a resident Sharp-shinned Hawk around my house and he stopped by this morning to make sure my Sharpie Food Feeders were well stocked with bait. He makes several runs past my bird feeders each day. Everyone have a Merry Christmas this year. I may see some of you at the Blackford (Russell Co.) CBC on the 28th or the Mt. Rogers CBC on Jan 4th.
