A rare, early-summer, adult Bald Eagle was found Wednesday, June 28, about a
half mile from Horton's Ford on the Clinch River in Hancock County of upper
east Tennessee.

The bird was discovered by Wayne Jones and Bill Grigsby of Kingsport, TN while
birding from US 23 north past Gate City in Scott Co., VA and then west at
Spears Ferry into Robinette Valley. They birded along the Clinch River and
finally back to Rogersville and US 11-W and then to Phipps Bend in Hawkins Co.,
TN.

The eagle was perched in a dead snag across the river and was seen at close
range. It appeared to have no concern about traffic along the road or the
presence of birders.

Wayne Jones provided information for this report, including a detailed map of
the location where the eagle was seen. He sent a photo but was not satisfied
with the quality and asked that it not be posted to the list. It is a good
documentary picture.

Let's go birding......
