January 26, 2008 I observed the following today in Greene County and at various Cherokee Lake areas of Grainger and Jefferson Counties: Greene Co.: Eurasian Collared-Dove (5, adjacent to West Greene High School); Red-breasted Nuthatch (Greeneville); Fox Sparrow (Greeneville). Grainger Co.: Bald Eagle (adult, Cherokee Lake at Highway 375 bridge); Northern Harrier; Cooper's Hawk; Bonaparte's Gull (10); Ring-billed Gull (96); Eurasian Collared-Dove (2, Highway 375 0.7 mile south of Harrell Park Road (about a third of a mile north of the Cherokee Lake bridge)); Red-breasted Nuthatch (at the cemetery just north of the Cherokee Lake bridge on Highway 375); Dark-eyed Junco (12). Jefferson Co.: Gadwall (Mossy Creek Wildlife Viewing Area); Cooper's Hawk; Bonaparte's Gull (42); Ring-billed Gull (207); Brown Creeper; American Pipit (3); Palm Warbler (Mossy Creek Wildlife Viewing Area); Chipping Sparrow (4); Swamp Sparrow (3, Mossy Creek Wildlife Viewing Area); Dark-eyed Junco (3).
