The Bristol Bird Club had a great weekend at Natural Tunnel State Park, Duffield, Virginia. Natural Tunnel is a beautiful park with great facilities and wonderful views of Natural Tunnel and southwest Virginia. On four walks on Saturday and Sunday, May 20th and 21st. We enjoyed great fellowship and good food in a comfortable and natural setting.

The participants, including Linda Jarrett and Donna Poteet (Duffield), Donna Kolb (Jonesville), Martha Podren (Gray, TN), Fiona Zahnke (Big Stone Gap), Bob Quillen (Bristol), Barbara Hollis, Jackie Manis (Norton).

The walks were led by Bristol Bird Club members Mary Erwin, Judy Roach, Mitch, Donna, and Alexis Moore, Zellie Earnest Nancy Necessary, Wilma Boy, Lois Cox, Dave and Diana Worley, Janice and Fred Martin and Mike Poe. The staff from Natural Tunnel State Park supporting the walks were Marty McConnell, Megan Krager, Bob Vangundy and Jean Brown (outstanding volunteer leader).

Other activities were held in addition to the bird walks, as part ot the birding weekend. Highlighting these was a presentation about bird photography led by Dr. Bill Harris, Mountain Empire Community College, and Bill Akers. Also offered were nestbox building led by Megan Krager and a presentaton on landscaping for birds by Bill Grigsby.

We appreciate the work done by the NTSP staff to put on this successful weekend of birding as a International Migratory Bird Day event to introduce others to birding and to see the NTSP Birding Trail and the various habitats and the species of birds in each type of habitat.
