With great pride, the Bristol Bird Club is excited to learn today
that Ed Burke, a founding member of our club in March 1950,
was honored at King College by former physics students.

It was announced during an Alumni Luncheon that the
Edward W. Burke, Jr. endowed professorship in the sciences has
been funded with a drive which raised an enormous contribution.

Typically, such an endowed professorship is a position permanently paid
for with the revenue from an endowment fund specifically set up for that
purpose. An endowed professorship aids the college by providing a
faculty member who does not have to be paid entirely out of the
operating budget.

King College will eventually appoint a faculty member to the endowed
professorships. It is a cherished and highly-recognized honor to be
given such an academic tile to be carried with the faculty member's
name.

Alumni and friends of King College are in Bristol to participate in the
85th celebration of Dogwood Weekend. The event theme this year
is "Celebrating Past and Future."

Burke, who is active in the Bristol Bird Club and attends meetings,
is a retired Professor of Physics and Astronomy Emeritus
at King College. He joined the school's faculty in 1948. He earned
his Ph.D. at the University of Wisconsin - Madison.
