The Bristol Bird Club held its January meeting Tuesday,

January 20, 2015, and enjoyed a neat and entertaining program

of show-and-tell which included several members showing

slide presentations of birding trips and fun birds from recent years.

Bill Grigsby organized the program with photos sent by

members in advance of the meeting.

Grigsby also reported that the Kingsport Christmas

Bird Count preliminary total is 76 species with a final count

to be reported soon.

John Moyle gave a report on the BBC's Hiwassee

Sandhill Crane Festival field trip. He said the group saw about 1,000

Sandhill Cranes, down considerably from the number seen

last year.

Moyle announced that the club's January 31

field trip would end his responsibilities for field trips.

Birders were reminded of the Feb. 13-16 Backyard

Bird Count and upcoming Feeder Watch events and

encouraged to take part in both national events.

President Lois Cox also announced in detail

arrangements, schedules, accommodations and registration

for the Tennessee Ornithological Society's 100th Anniversary

Celebration and spring meeting at Montgomery Bell State

Park April 30 - May 3. The park is west of Nashville. She

noted that Dr. Andy Jones would be a presenter on the

Friday program.

Grigsby made a motion to pass the hat and take up

money to sponsor a mile marker for the Operation

Migration Whooping Crane project which will lead

birds by small ultralight aircraft from Wisconsin

to Florida. Members donated $137 in cash.

About 20 person attended the meeting with 10

having dinner at the Mad Greek Restaurant before

the meeting.
