Eleven birders turned out Sat. a.m., April 24, for a very pleasant trip
to Clinch Mt. Wildlife Management Area. Those taking part were Bob
Quillen, Nancy Necessary, Dick Moose, Judy Moose, Diane Elk, Mitch
Moore, Janice Martin, Ruth Smith, Joann Detta, Marty Huber, and Mary
Erwin. Thanks to Bob Quillen for leading the motorcade from Abingdon to
the WMA along a beautiful stretch of the North Fork Holston River which
was new territory for many of us.

We observed or heard 41 species, including Red-tailed hawk, Winter wren,
4 species woodpeckers, Blue-gray gnatcatcher (pair building nest),
Scarlet tanager, Indigo bunting. 9 Warbler species were:
Yellow-breasted chat, Ovenbird, American redstart, Canada warbler,
Chestnut-sided warbler, Hooded warbler, Pine warbler, Yellow warbler,
and Common yellowthroat.

A bonus for the day was the abundant display of wildflowers along Big
Tumbling Creek and the trail above the archery range. Trillium,
foamflower, Bishop's cap, Blue-eyed Mary, just to name a few.
