Members of the Bristol Bird Club met Thursday
evening to strike a calendar of events and
field trips extending well into 2009.

BBC V-P John Moyle, announced that the club's next Rainforest
Adventures Program field trip is being planned for June 2010.
Our birding trip will be to the Amazon River Valley of Peru. This will
be our third field trip to South America as part of the program. We
went to Trinidad in 2006 and Ecuador this year.

Fifteen birders attended last night's planning meeting. It
was one of our largest turnouts for a planning team:
Janice Martin, Diana Worley, Dave Worley, Mike Poe,
John Moyle, Roy Knispel, Lois Ann Cox, Michele Sparks,
Lisa Tyler, Mary Erwin, Wilma Boy, Larry McDaniel,
Rick Knight, Carolyn Coffey and Wallace Coffey.

The group heard a report about the BBC's January
proposal to change our meeting place to the Bristol
Public Library due to ETSU-Bristol closing next month.
President Dave Worley will take this up at our November
meeting scheduled Tues (Nov. 16-next week) at the ETSU
Bristol when we meet there for the last time. The club will
discuss the possibility and vote.

Larry McDaniel has confirmed that the December meeting
will be held at the conference room in the Steele
Creek Park Lodge on Tues., Dec 16, at 7:30 p.m. This is
our annual Christmas Bird Count planning and coordination
meeting for the four counts sponsored by BBC -- Kingsport
(12/26), Bristol (12/28), Shady Valley / Mountain City (1/1),
and Glade Spring (1/3).

Among the highlights of dates ahead:

Dec. 6, Sat. Annual BBC Christmas Party, home of
Michele Sparks, just off TN Rt. 394, west of Bristol Motor
Speedway.

Jan 28, Sat. Northeast Tennessee Waterfowl Count to be
held in five counties -- compilers and coordinators Rick
Knight, Wallace Coffey.

Feb. 7, Sat. Golden Eagle Birding Trip to Burke's Garden.

Feb 13 - 16, 2009 Joint sponsorship Great Backyard Bird
Count with Steele Creek Park Nature Center. The count,
a project of The National Audubon Society and the Cornell
Lab of Ornithology, will be held at Steele Creek Park.

May 16-17, Proposed weekend for Natural Tunnel State
Park weekend birding events and birdwalks. This needs
to be coordinated with the park events schedule.

Jun 20 or 27, Sat. BBC Annual Picnic Steele Creek Park

July 11 & 15, FunFest-BBC birdwalks at Bays Mountain
Park.

Sep 18, Fri. BBC Annual Banquet

Other field trips being planned are a Northwest Tennessee
long weekend trip to either Land Between Lakes, Reelfoot
or similar area. An overnight to Frozen Head State Park
in the Tennessee Cumberlands is another proposal.

Also planned in last night's meeting were many local and
regional field trips and their destinations in the coming months.
John Moyle will post the entire planning meeting field trip
schedule in the near future. Exceptional care and consideration
is being given to avoiding as many other area birding events,
naturalist activities and such. For these reasons, Moyle has
not yet finalized all field trip dates. The details are in progress.
