March 12, 2006

Just a few minutes ago, from about 10:40-10:45 p.m., I heard an American Woodcock calling from the field beyond the bottom of the hill behind our house here in Greeneville. Tonight the weather is warm and mild, without wind, and we have a bright gibbous moon. I have read of woodcocks displaying on spring nights like this, but I don't recall ever hearing one this late in the evening.
