I had an American Redstart "gnatcatching" in the branches of a willow stand
adjacent to Simerly Creek at home in Hampton (Carter Co., TN) Friday, July 23,
at about 8 p.m.
The bird looked most like illustrations of a first-year male (spring) bird,
which would actually mean he is in his second year. He had a lot of orange
rather than yellow in the plumage, but a uniformly gray head. I could not
detect
any black feathers among the gray. He did a lot of tail fanning while in view.

Yesterday evening, had Hooded Warblers and an Ovenbird during a quick
woodland walk.
