TN Birders, Early this morning Bob Riggs, newly selected member to the VSO board of directors, and I birded Horn Mountain and Harry's Branch in Buchanan Co. VA. It was a super warbler day with the highlight being the elusive Swainson's. The birds were moving through the gaps and along the ridges. Sometimes it was fantastic as we would have 4 or 5 species of warblers within earshot at the same time. It was also sometimes frustrating but intriguing; We followed the Bluewings several hundred yards before we got a good look. The warblers were as follows: Swainson's Black-and-white Chestnut-sided (spectacular plumage) Black-throated Green Orange-crowned Tennessee Yellow-rumped (spectacular plumage) Yellow-throated Blue-winged Hooded Northern Parula Worm Eating Louisiana Waterthrush Other migrants were: Ovenbird Gray Catbird (1st one of the season) Scarlet Tanager (1st one of the season) Wood Thrush Blue-gray Gnatcatcher Yellow throated Vireo Red-eyed Vireo A great day to be in the Appalachians, Roger Mayhorn Grundy, VA ************************************************* BRISTOL BIRDS NET LIST This is a regional birding list sponsored by the Bristol Bird Club to facilitate communications between birders and bird clubs of Southwest Virginia and Northeast Tennessee.
