A final report for The 2011 TOS Shady Valley Foray, which was held 10-12 June, is in your copy of THE MIGRANT (Sept. 2011 edition) which has just arrived or soon will arrive in your mail if you are a member of the Tennessee Ornithological Society. It is the lead article published in this Vol. 82, No. 3 publication which is the quarterly journal devoted to Tennessee birds. It occupies 14 pages of print. Many such journals are long delayed in publication and will explain the 2011 cover date. The event was planned, sponsored and conducted by the Bristol Bird Club and the Herndon Chapters of TOS, with cooperation of The Nature Conservancy. Shady Valley is in Johnson Co., the northeastern-most county in Tenn. On the Foray, 23 observers covered the main valley floor, the gorge, and surrounding mountains (via the Appalachian Trail and Iron Mtn. Trail). 94 species were found.
