Tom,

That’s quite a list. Thanks for sharing the photos of the screech owls. That’s
a lucky find.

What is CGI?

Subject: [Bristol-Birds] 2 days birding in Russell County

Greetings,
I spent part of the last 2 days, 1-3 and 1-4, birding around Russell County
and part of 1-4 in the Cove section of Tazewell County.
We seemed to have a small waterfowl fallout on 1-3: at the ponds behind CGI
there were 6 Mallards and 2 Black Ducks, at the Mill Pond on Elk Garden Road I
had 8 Canada Geese, 2 Hooded Mergansers and 2 HORNED GREBES. At the Mudhole
there were 175 plus Mallards that took flight before I could scan them for
other species and at Stuart's Pond there were 20 Mallards, 1 Woodduck, 1
American Wigeon and 1 Lesser Scaup.
Today I found 2 Rough-legged Hawks hunting the feilds beside Rt 80 near the
intersection of Rt 80 and Elk Garden Road. You can stop at the small pull off
beside Rt 80 and scan the fields across the road.
I also saw 2 Eastern Screech-Owls perched. One was on Mountain Road and the
other was on Clifton Farms Road. The one on Mt Road has been around for almost
5 years. The owl on Clifton Farms Road is located across the road from the
black barn near the cattle loading area. I have found it there 3 times in the
last week. 2 photos are attached.
