Yesterday, April 9th, we had 100 + Purple Finches at our feeders and in the trees around our yard. At times there were 6 to 8 on each of the feeders and more waiting in the trees. Richard Kretz, who lives 4 or 5 miles from us called and said that he had over 200 in his yard. While I was busy mowing the lawn, Laverne went over to Richard and Pam's. Dave Worley stopped by Richards also to see the finches. It was quite a spectacle with the males in full breeding plumage and the females with their bright new plumage. They stayed around all day.
