We must be miscommunicating. I've so far had no trouble going further down the road with the implementation of two side-by-side StyledText widgets that I had sent you. The two widgets can be scrolled together and the arrow keys work. As far as it's being Byzantine, you can say that of SWT in general. I based my implementation on the sample code in the JavaDoc for the ScrolledComposite widget, several snippets, and the SWT TextEditor example.

By the way, the TextEditor example, which uses one StyledText widget, is almost 1800 lines so it's not surprising that developing an SWT-based GUI using two StyledText widgets is not going to be simple.
