Upon investigation it transpired that the animals had been poisoned - it appears with Temick (spelling?), acquired illegally from a nearby farm - and had died in the vicinity of the poisoned carcass. In order to avoid attracting attention to himself the perpetrator collected the carcasses and dumped them away from his cattle post. Unfortunately the police and the DWNP have not managed to prosecute, although we believe we know who the perpetrator is. The word on the street is that he won't be prosecuted because he has influential friends in one or other of the law enforcement units?? Pete Hancock has initiated a document that details BirdLife's recent experiences with poison issues. We would like to include brief accounts from as many groups as possible. Does anyone have any information to include? Please reply to me directly at rebecca@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx<mailto:rebecca@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> and I will send you the document as it is currently. We will send the final document out for final review by all contributors before presenting it the Ministry. We'd appreciate your input and please forward to anyone who may have experiences with wildlife deaths due to poisoning.
