While the present stock of Khutse lions may disappear. The Khutse population
is really part of the CKGR population and the question should really be if
Khutse is a sink can the CKGR population cope with it? If Khutse was an
isolated population it would be different. I guess the issue is whether
Botswana and the DWNP want lions in Khutse and what the costs and benefits
of maintaining a stable population structure of prides in Khutse are as
opposed to a population of dispersing animals that wander in and then are
knocked off by livestock people. The latter sounds like the current
trajectory under status quo.
