[bookshare-discuss] Re: e: Re: SEPARATE PAGES FOR BOOKS IN ENGLISH, BOOKS IN SPANISH, AND BOOKS FOR CHILDREN

Typically, I browse the new books list periodically, and see if there's
something I'm interested in reading. I guess what I'm asking is if there's a
way to tell if title X is fiction or nonfiction, not necessarily to generate
a list per se.
Thanks.

Stephan,

Bookshare already allows you to specify whether a book is fiction or
nonfiction. The categories are "Nonfiction" and "Literature and Fiction".
They don't make you choose one or the other, though, and most people don't
think to check them because of the way the fiction category is named.
Because of this, you can't reliably generate a list of fiction or nonfiction
books using Advanced Search. We've pointed this out to them, and maybe one
day we'll be able to reliably list fiction and nonfiction books.

HTH

Gerald

Something else which would be helpful is to designate a book as fiction or
nonfiction. Sometimes it's difficult to tell, particularly in the area of
history.

Hi,

Gerald Hovas, one of the list monitors did respond to the question about
separating out Children's Books. Unfortunately the infrastructure that
powers BookShare.org is not at this time capable of accomplishing this goal.

When a book is added to the collection a language must be selected, either
English or Spanish, but there is no provision to mark a book Children or Not

Children.

We are looking forward to adding links to the website that will allow for
the separation of new books in English from those in Spanish.
