Cindy, I haven't tried the unpack thing, but from what I've read, I don't think that works. I think you have to unpack it first and then transfer the four Daisy files to your stream. I'm wondering if you download it to the puter and the to the stream or if you can ownload it directly and then unpack it. Hmmm! I'll try that tomorrow. LOL. Cindy Lou Ray. Each day is a new adventure. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ann Parsons" <akp@xxxxxxxxxxxx> To: <bookshare-discuss@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Tuesday, September 11, 2007 8:51 PM Subject: [bookshare-discuss] Re: Victor Stream Hi all, Original message: > Didn't I read, though, that somehow you'd need to have a cartrige to > download a book. That doesn't make sense, but so? Hmmmmm, don't ya just love disinformation? That's information that is almost true but not quite. Let me shed some light here. The Victor Reader Stream, which I am going to call The Stream from now on, can indeed use the cartridges which are going to be available from NLS by the end of next year. They can also use SD cards. It is now possible to sign up for the beta test of the NLS downloadable audio books, but there are several conditions. 1. You must understand that it is a beta test of the downloadable books, and that you can download the books to your Stream by using an SD card and a card reader to transfer the books. I haven't seen a Stream, but you may be able to plug in one of those USB cables to it and download the books directly to it. 2. You must be a registered user of the NLS Regional Library in your area, and you must be an active user, either by getting cassettes or by getting a monthly magazine. Use of Web Braille doesn't count. 3. You must have a Stream. Once you've met all the conditions above, you can sign up at: http://www.nlstalkingbooks.org/dtb Fill out the application. NLS will check with your regional library and if they know you, you'll get a user ID and Password. The next step is to contact Humanware for the code you need to put into the Stream so that it will read the NLS books. I'm not sure if Humanware contacts you first or if you have to contact them. It may be in the form that comes to you when you sign up. I've been on the beta team for these audio books. We got adapted Victor Reader Classic Pluses, and we've been testing the web site and the books for almost a year now. Ghys, they're wonderful! There are some sixty-five hundred books up there now. So, if you have a Stream, sign up, but only if you meet all the conditions. Ann P. -- Ann K.
