Bookshare.org Spanish language Book Update:

Just a few more days of Spanish-only books in the "New Books" section.

We have completed our deliverables for a very generous grant from the Community
Technology Foundation of California. Bookshare.org received this grant to
provide 1,000 books in Spanish, a Spanish language version of a subset of the
Bookshare.org website, and Spanish language legal documents. This grant also
provided 250 free subscriptions for Spanish speaking Californians who qualified
to receive Bookshare.org books.

It has been quite an accomplishment for the staff here, especially Gustavo
Galindo. He has been the manager of this grant (for those of you who wonder
"what does Gustavo do") from the beginning. Susie McKinnon, our Sales
Manager, has been working with a number of California schools and districts to
make sure these free subscriptions get to those who really need them; Jennifer
Sutton, Marissa Mika and several local volunteers have done a phenomenal job of
getting these books through the system. And several Benetech engineering folks
have been wearing lots of hats to get this done.

As always, your patience over the past month is much appreciated. To prepare
for future similar scenarios, engineering upgrades for "New Books,"
"Categories," "Search," etc. should eliminate some of these problems.

SPANISH, AND BOOKS FOR CHILDREN

Kathleen I totally agree! It's ridiculous to have to arrow through 90
Spanish titles in order to be able to access 10 books in English. Three
separate new books lists would make book selection easier and more enjoyable
for all Book share users.
