That's an independent publisher, such as CreateSpace.

More than that, volunteer produced books are in a fairly small minority on Bookshare anymore and as huge numbers of PQ books are added every day the proportion of volunteer produced books is getting smaller and smaller. But there are still a lot of books, especially indy published books, that if volunteers did not add them would remain not accessible forever. The NLS sure isn't going to pick up indies and by the very nature of indy publishing it is also extremely unlikely that they will ever become PQ books either.

Yes, there's that, too.
I got a book, not even a textbook, just a book for the general reader,
which has a very small amount of simple math in it. But since the math
is all in images, I can't even read it. A volunteer produced version,
properly proofed, would have made sure that would have been included.

The problem with a lot of the PQ stuff, particularly textbooks is that
all the charts are images. In some books, half the book is images!
Thus, the need to scan and proofread!

Well I don't have the patience to scan; takes too long; and I used to
proof but that got too bogged down  too with rules and regs, so I quit.
Now that we are getting so much publisher quality stuff, I don't see
the need to proof any more.

Also, I don't think I ever knew the difference between this list, and
the volunteer list to which I cannot subscribe!
Thanks for clarifying something I always wondered about.

Let me suggest that this topic really belongs on the volunteer list,
not the Bookshare general discussion list.

Thanks, as I just mostly scan and do not proof books, I only wanted
an answer to that one question.
I just cannot keep up with all the requirements for proofreading.
Just try to get a perfect scan.

Hi all,

Sharon, I believe that this question is answered in the proofer's
manual, however, I will say that if you place three contiguous stars
and hit 'enter', Word, at least, will create a line of stars which
is not what you want here.  You want to put spaces between each star.
