Because optical character recognition is important to Bookshare scanners and
volunteers, I felt this announcement would be considered on topic. Hope you
agree.

The Accessible World Tek Talk event this week will focus on optical
character recognition (OCR), one of the major technologies that has played a
significant role in providing access to the printed page for those with
disabilities. Leading the discussion will be Kurzweil Vice-President Stephen
Baum, a recognized OCR authority.

He will begin by discussing , what optical character recognition is and what
else it should be. Then, following a technical and corporate history of
OCR, he will describe the state of the art today and its future direction. A
question and answer period will follow the presentation.

Plan now to take advantage of this unique opportunity to learn first-hand
from Stephen about this amazing technology that continues to impact the
lives of many blind and visually impaired individuals.
