Hi, Kathy,

BTW (By the way, if you're not yet familiar with
e-mail shorthand) is Tom your husband or your dog?

Anyway, back to the subject. One of the pages after
the title page has all the copyright data -- the name
of the publisher and the publication date; a symbol
which is a letter c inside a circle is the copyright
symbol; right next to that is the copyright date;
either next to that or on another line next to another
copyright symbol is the name of the person or entity
holding the copyright. It's usually the author of the
book but sometimes the publisher. Also, there can be
more than one copyright date; if a book is a later
edition than the original, there often will be both
the original copyright date and the more recent one.
Bookshare says to use the latest one. I have a problem
when the illustrator has a separate copyright, because
only one can go into the space, but I usually put that
info into the comments section.

The ISBN number is on the same page if there is one.
Older books often don't have one, and you'll notice
that the bookshare form says it's optional, so you
don't have to put it in -- but it's helpful for the
validator if he or she is using a book to help with
the validation, so he/she gets the right edition.

If you don't have that page with its information --
some privately published things might not and some
paperbacks have the pages and sometimes cover torn off
-- then you can't submit the book.

The study guide you mentioned --is that a separate
item? That might be tricky to submit; I would assume
it doesn't have all that info. Were you planning to
submit it as a separate document or have you attached
it to the end of the book, which would by my
suggestion.

As to the synopsis -- Type in a brief summary of the
book. Further down, or on the next screen (I can't
remember) is space for a longer synopsis, which you
probably don't need , unless you want to describe the
book and its study guide more fully. What you wrote in
the discussiona about it would go in nicely there. the
Comments section is for whoever validates the book --
any problems they might encounter, or if there were a
lot of foreign words of dialect that might account for
a quality rating (though I've noticed that lately the
automatic quality rater takes that into consideration
and if those words are the only oddities it gives the
book a Excellent rating)l You might inlcude your name
and e-mail address there in case the validator has any
questions.

I'm not sure if you know the rest of the procedure --
if you do, forgive my repeating it. After you submit
the book it instantly goes onto the Download for
Validation list. Then someone validates it, which
means proofreads it, which can take a short or long
time, depending on the quality of the scan, how much
you've done before submitting it (some people just
scan and submit so some books are a mess), the length
of the book, and how much time the validator has.
Whenthe validator finishes, he/she approves it for the
collection. The administrators give it a final
look-over for things and converts it to formats like
Daisy and BRF, and it's available to members.

If you have any more questions or problems, I'll be
here all day and wil check my mail frequently. Good
luck.

Cindy
