Hi Richard:

I hope that this is the case, because frankly, it would be more convenient for me to read the files in my pc at times. But that notice of how you can't have it on a retrieval system is what's kept me from transferring them there to read.

Hi Yerba,

This question has come up before and there are opposing opinions as to
whether this illegal or not. I called the librarian at the Braille and
Talking Book Library in Daytona Beach in Florida and she said that it is
perfectly legal to read the converted file in text format on your
computer as long as it is for your own use.

It is still questionable whether you could print the file in large print
as this would make it too readily available to others.

The problem is that one of the notices on each book says that the book
can
not be kept in a retrieval system or can not be reproduced unless it's
in
special format. So I took it to mean that you can't have these
translated
files unless they're in bookport or some other program or device related
to
access for the visually impaired.

Wintrans will do it. You can use this tool even if you want to
transfer
the files to the Bookport. It converts the brf or brl files to text.

Hey guys,
Do you know of a program that will back translate the BRF files so I
can
listen to them on the PC instead of off loading them to my Braille
Lite.
Will Open Book or Kurzweil do this for me.

Walt, they didn't change the action, you did! You just showed me a
much
easier way to associate files with a program. At least I think
that's
what happened. I'll have to experiment with this.
