I prefer having the choice. Quantification isn't really important to
me--it's just how it sounds and I really don't care what the number; which
is a purely arbitrary value, anyway; might happen to be. Since there are
only 9 possible settings, this doesn't really strike me as a very meaningful
enhancement.

Right, that's Don's point. Numbers would be easier to quantify than "louder"
or "softer".
