You must be talking about the currency symbol. I don't know what that is.
The number sign and the pound sign, as on a phone dial, are the same ascii
and print character.

Just one correction. Number sign is not the same character as the Pound
sign. They are two different ASCII characters.
As far as book port's pronunciation goes, it pronounces all the characters
correctly, such as number for number and dollar for dollar.
