The Book Port only supports Fat16, so it should probably be less.

Hmmmmmm...could be that the number is larger for FAT32 devices.
Traditionally, the space for number of entries in the root directory
was
limited to two bytes, but it might be more now. Two bytes =3D FF =3D =
255. If
FAT32 allows four bytes, that'd be 65,535 files in the root. I think I
have something like 12 or so files in the root of my card and
everything
else is in either author- or format-specific folders.

Actually, for whatever reason, the limit must be higher. I have 313
items in my route directory, or, folder if you will, this includes
files
and folders.
Thanks, Walt you've made me do some serious housekeeping.

I'm not Larry, but I think that the max number of files that can be
stored in the root of any medium (CF card, floppy, hard drive) is 255.
This includes folders. In other words, the root directory can have up
to
255 entries.=3D3D20

Hi Larry and list,
It has been so long since I used a FAT filesystem, I have forgotten
what
is
the upper limit for the number of files that can be saved to the root,
and
also to the subdirectories?
