But as I said, that's the behavior regardless of whether I have Lock Beep
set to on or off. What should I expect if it's set to on?

Ah. the double beep you're experiencing is the normal beep when the
bookport automatically goes into standby mode, or whatever it does after
10 seconds of inactivity. Hardware limitations or something prevent it
from being shut off. The beep won't sound through the external speaker
when the unit is locked. That beep is seperate.
