While it is common to hear about problems on this list, I'd just like to say
I use my book port for mostly playing audio and have not encountered any
drop out problem.

I think that may depend on the bit rate the file was recorded at and the
frequency response of your headphones.
The frequency response of my AKG66 are 18hz - 22khz
