No, I wouldn't expect it to, but I thought one of the scenarios under discussion was a form feed in a Word document transferred to the BP. If not, I apologize for having stated the obvious. Also, be aware that with some codes, there isn't a direct ability to translate from binary value to the code. One place you can really get bitten by this is in braille translation of the quotation marks used by Word, since (if you don't modify them manually) they are translated using their literal ASCII value and don't come out as quotation marks. Finally, ASCII and ANSI codes are not identical. Are we sufficiently confused yet? -----Original Message----- From: bookport-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:bookport-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Neal Ewers Sent: Tuesday, June 28, 2005 3:12 PM To: bookport@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [bookport] Re: form feeds in text documents Walt, this works in Word, but it does not get transferred when converted to text. When I turn numlock on and press alt and 12 on the number pad, it gives me some strange number. When I do a leading 0 in the same scenario, it beeps at me like I am some kind of nitwit, but that's beside the point. What am I doing wrong? That will insert a form feed character into Notepad at least. >>> ewers@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx Tuesday, June 28, 2005 2:21:11 PM >>> Well, I have been doing some research on this one. I can find no way in Word, note pad, or word pad to insert form feed characters. So, I asked a colleague who has all kinds of editors to write a document with form feeds in it to see if the book port would honor them. As Rob said, it does. Now, if I really want a form feed in a document, I can simply cut and paste one of the form feeds in the text file I have into note pad and guess what, book port does recognize the form feed character as a result of the paste to note pad. I'm selling these form feed characters for $1 per feed. I'm just kidding of course, but if anyone wants a file which consists of nothing but a form feed that they can use, I would be happy to send it to them as an attachment, off line, of course. Neal
