It must depend on the country/province. Ours has changed to the source, so I
mainly trust best buy or future shop for batteries for the bookport. Also, I
have a pair of sony portable speakers, and they work will with the unit as
well.

I don't want to start a store-war here but I've had perfectly good luck with RS.

Audo,
Don't try any radio shack. They gave me a logitech wireless keybord with *no* disk, a torn box, and dead batteries. To add to that, when I told them I wanted a refund, they wouldn't give it to me. I forget how I did it, but finally managed to talk to someone (the manager?) and get my money back.
They don't ceel talking watches anymore, either.

Hello,
Sounds like I need to take my business to another shack store, the jack ass
at the one I went to told me they had nothing like what you describe.

I found a set of small battery powered stereo speakers at RadioShack that
fold up and are very portable, and they have a pretty good sound to them
too, with a vynal carrying case for $29.99.

: What would be a good external speaker to use with the book port?
:
: Any that you can find so long as you like the sound and it terminates in a
: 3.5 mm plug. Either the mono or stereo ImaSpeaker will work fine.
:
: If you have a cassette player distributed by the Library of Congress or
: other talking book agency, you can run a patch cable between the book port
: and the Auxiliary input of the cassette player allowing the cassette player : to provide the external speaker for the book port. This is very : satisfactory. : : Cheers, : Dave : :
