Rusty: The reason renaming the ._DD files to MP3 doesn't always work is that the files are often encrypted. So, you can't tell using this technique if the files are corrupt or encrypted. Rob Meredith >>> rusty.perez@xxxxxxxxx 05/24/06 01:16PM >>> Hi Rob, OK, I have some success. Pam suggested I try renaming the _dd files to mp3 files to see if they play. They did not. I renamed back to _dd files, I also used chkdsk and the problem seems to be fixed, at least with the one book. All files are there ETC. I don't know where the deleeted files from the other books went, but it doesn't matter now that I'e got the important one back. Thanks! If the file system is in good shape, those files are just gone. I don't know why they disappeared; I am hoping that others with this problem will give enough clues that we can figure it out. Rob Meredith >>> rusty.perez@xxxxxxxxx 05/24/06 11:31AM >>> Hi Rob, There are some _ix files and some _dd files. There are some missing files however, because there isn't a matched set of three files for each file name. There is still a lastfile file. Any ideas as to how to recover these files without resending, or, possibly, saving bookmarks? Thanks! We have seen a few situations where user's lost the ._DD file for a book, but the ._IX file was in tact. Of course we haven't gotten this to happen here and have know idea how it occurred. If you decide to look, remember to show hidden files, since ._IX files are hidden files. I realise the file names are not the title of the book; figuring out which files belong to which book is a bit of a challenge. Rob Meredith >>> rusty.perez@xxxxxxxxx 05/22/06 06:12PM >>> Hi folks, I have a daisy book on my bookport for a class which I teach. I have been using this particular file for about sixteen weeks with no trouble. It is on a compact flash card which holds many other things1 txt books1 podcasts. I do not generally use this card for anything else, but, occasionally I will put a file on it to be read with my ubrailleunote. My daisy books are in a directory of their own. The card is not full. Here's my problem. Today I attempted to read from this particular book. I got an error saying, "application file IO error" There are other daisy books in the same directory. Two of them, significantly smaller books, are playable. Another, a large book, gives me a slightly different error, "error opening file data file IO error" Other mp3 files play. The only thing which I can think of is that I transferred a book from my pc recently using k1000. If any one has any ideas, please let me know. This particular file is marked up, and it is nearly 700 pages long so transfering it again would be a huge bummer. Thanks Rusty
