Pamela and others - I find this to be an amazingly frank and clear statement. Having worked in the computer hardware and software business for most of my adult life, I was frankly concerned with the amount of advance information that _was_ released by APH about the BP 2, knowing as I do only too well exactly what can (and as you indicate, did) happen once a product actually enters the development; as opposed to the planning or design) phase. Naturally, I'm personally disappointed about the status of the BP 2, but I also realize that aside from a mere matter of personal convenience with respect to _one_ format of material (recorded books from NLS), this delay is really of no significant impact on us users. All recorded material from NLS will continue to be issued on cassettes through at least 2011 (when NLS _hopes_ to have all of their users who want one equipped with their own digital players), so I simply don't understand the problem, if there actually is one. -----Original Message----- From: bookport-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:bookport-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of PAMELA RADER Sent: Wednesday, October 31, 2007 10:00 AM To: bookport@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [bookport] Re: concern about bookport 2! Ed: Well, quite honestly, I'm not sure how it is you can say that we haven't been keeping you posted on Book Port 2, when that is exactly what I have been doing. Please understand that I'm not at liberty to divolge everything to the outside public, however, what I can tell you, I have done so. The problem with the development of Book Port 2 has nothing to do with NLS, but other development issues with hardware and parts. We didn't feel it was up to the usual quality of performance and couldn't pass it on. If you'd like to review what I have said in the past, may I suggest that you go to the free list archives and read the messages on Book Port 2. I made sure they had the appropriate subject lines so one could do just that. Of course, I can't promise there won't be other messages with that subject but with differing content. That's why I always ask that you all stick to the subject line written or change your subject to reflect the topic, so it will be easier to find in the archives. In my recent posts to this list, where I asked people not to go off on Book Port 2, I merely meant that because of these set backs, we're not even sure if the Book Port 2 is going to come out. And, if it does, we certainly don't know when. That's all I can say about that right now. I've been asked by my superiors not to promise any dates, nor promise that it will happen because we just don't know right now. After our earlier blunders on talking about Book Port 2 prematurely, I'm okay with that. Once we know more, then we can open this list to suggestions and questions, etc. I just don't want to have the list barraged with all kinds of things that I really don't have answers to right now. Judging from messages of the past, I know that's how it would be, so that is why I asked that we stick to Book Port 1 issues for now. If I knew for certain that it would come out in a year or whatever, I certainly wouldn't have asked that and would let you all run wild with it. Now, as far as I know as of the writing of this message, you are up-to-date. Of course, if anything breaks, I'll be sure to post. Pamela Rader, TECHNICAL SUPPORT
