I have the same problem . The bookport doesn't show up as a choice to "Send to" but I am able to send books from Kurzweil.

Are you absolutely sure that your USB cable isn't damaged? Do you own a PAC
Mate? If so, the PAC Mate cable is identical and can be used with the BP, so
swap and see what happens.

MessageIt comes with the bookport not connected sound, and it says bookpport
as not connected.

I don't have a reader, and the transfer doesn't even come up. When I
open the program it says bookport not connected. I just took this bookport
home this weekend, and it's the first time I've tried to use it on this
computer.

I have the same situation.

     Windows used to recognize my BP as a removable disk, but after I
installed a sandisc card reader, it hasn't come back, although the My
computer list in Windows Explorer shows an extra number of items in the
list.

Rob Meredith has told me that as long as the transfer program
launches, it doesn't matter. So, while I miss not seeing BP, it still works
just fine and I can move stuff around if I wish by just putting the CF card
in the card reader. Which I find I'm doing less and less.

I've completely uninstalled norton, this didn't help. I also rebooted the computer and got the same result.

Hello, Do you have a firewall turned on, perhaps something like Norton Internet Security? If so, turn it off and try connecting the bp again.

I am using my school's bookport here at home. I have installed
bookport transfer. When I connect the device, nothing happens. The device
isn't even recognized. I'm using windows XP. Any help would be
