Your headphone jack wouldn't cause those issues.

Off topic, does anyone on this list have a small MP3 player that
will play MP3 books and resume at the exact point where you stop
reading? I have considered sending my Book Port in for repair of
this problem but, so long as I can reset, I hate to give up reading
MP3 books off the computer.
